He paid $130.00 for some software....but on download they have a try before you buy on many of those. In other words there free, but only do limited things...you can't save your work after you edit it things of that nature.

Old movie, like Jane Eyre, hands hit with metal rod.?

When I was very young I saw a movie... it was old, and had the same feel as Jane Eyre and other similar movies. Sadly all I remember is that there's a girl in an abusive school-like environment, and one of the ways the girls are punished is by having their hands beaten with a metal rod. One of the girls comments that she would not let it happen to her and would rip the rod out of the teacher's (?) hands and hit her with it. In fact, I was sure the movie was one of the Jane Eyre movies, but having watched them this particular event never happened in any of them. Does anyone know the movie I'm talking about? I usually dislike movies that are "historical" and I rarely watch them, but for some reason I really want to watch this one. I'll feel stupid if this is some really famous and well-known movie.

Old movie, like Jane Eyre, hands hit with metal rod.?
Maybe the older version of Little Women? There's a scene in the book where Amy is punished in this way. Someone saying that they would "rip the rod out of the teacher's hands" sounds like something Jo would say.

Do movie directors even audition some actors for movies or do they just hire because of how famous they are?

Have you ever seen a movie with a big celebrity in it, but they can't act and you wondered how they got a part in that movie? I have many of times! So, my question, do famous people only get picked for a movie simply because they are famous? Do celebrities get picked for a movies because they know that people are going see the movie based on a person fame? What do you think? Tell me what movies that you saw that disappointed you or what you think directors really do!!!!!!!

Do movie directors even audition some actors for movies or do they just hire because of how famous they are?
I'm sure that some (bad) directors just give parts to celebrities because they think that just having someone famous in their movie will make it good, but any director worth his salt knows that you've gotta pick someone who's right for the part. Even if an actor is good, they might not fit the part of a charecter in the movie, so casting them as such would ruin it.
Reply:I'm not totally sure... but I'd guess that all actors have to do a screen test of some sort ... but some writers for movies actually see a person that they want and write the character for that actual actor. If they actually get the person is a different story.
Reply:most actors, no matter how famous they are have to audition for some roles in movies, but there are also other roles in movies created especially for that actor.
Reply:some directors have a particular actor/actress in mind for the part as well as writers when their writing the script. the parts are sometimes made for that particualr person rather than have auditions.
Reply:If this question was multiple choice, the correct answer is...

D) All of the above.

The movie industry is one of the most insane and chaotic things out there. If psychiatrists examined the business of it as a whole, they would require straitjackets afterward.

As far as auditions go, some do and some don't. Many times the response will be simply the actor doesn't do auditions, so the producer or director can either take it or leave it.

Other times, a manager or agency will help package a project with a group of talent he or she represents...which can be three decent actors and then one clunker. But it's a packaged deal...so once again; take it or leave it.

Sometimes people will pick up people just because they have name recognition in the public: not because of their skill but because people are already familiar with their name. A lot of movie companies (the ones who put their money on the line as far as the project's budget is concerned) merely ask "who's in it" rather than what their acting credentials are. Most times like these is when a director will say the names they have "attached" to the project. This doesn't mean there is a contract necessarily...just the word of an actor or his/her agent which means they might do it if there's already money in place.

In a lot of cases, the people with the money or the studio will insist that so-and-so goes in the movie. Most directors don't have a enough power to deny the suits, so they can either take the actor on and know the movie will continue to have funding - or refuse and suffer whatever consequences lie ahead.

For the "directing" part of your question: no two directors are the same as far as operating a production. Some are more hands-on while others step back and delegate a lot of the authority to the others working on the project.

The most common analogy is the director is the captain of the ship. The ability of the captain can directly affect the operation and outcome of a ship. You can have the most expensive ship in the world, or the best deck swabbers this side of the equator, but that ship can still sink.

If the director doesn't have a clue, his or her decisions can jeopardize the entire production. If he is sleeping with a bad actress, then he might feel obligated to place her in a prize role despite her ability. Or an actor totally wrong for a part ended up as the lead due to the fact he was the only one available during the days shooting.

One of the best and more current books out there is called Shoot Out: Surviving the Fame and (Mis) Fortune of Hollywood. It's by Peter Bart and Peter Guber - two who have been there and seen about all of it from the sixties up through today. There are a ton of stories about temperamental actors, directors, and even movie studios as well as projects which were severely altered or never even made. Just skimming the bios of the authors should be enough credibility.

They also have a great show called Sunday Morning Shootout on the AMC cable network. That sereis still airs most Sundays and have eipsodes available on DVD and also free clips on its site (see below).

Sorry about the answer being so convoluted...but nothing seems to be easy in the movie business.

Blockbuster Online Movie Help.?

I use Blockbuster Online and I have about 15 movies in my queue. Every single movie is either long wait for very long wait. Some movies we've waited for over two and three months and still it says 'very long wait'. We're very consistent about returning them too. We don't hold on to movies long either. On that rare event that we actually get a movie that is available, we watch it and send it back soon.

Does anyone have suggestions on getting movies from Blockbuster's Online service? Why is it so impossible to get Blockbuster to send us 'available' movies? There has to be a way to actually get movies, both new and old mailed to us.

Blockbuster Online Movie Help.?
yea when i had it i waited for days(weeks) to get what i wanted too, the more rare they are the harder it is to get um to you, but if i were you id call them up and tell them what going on!

How many movie equations can you come up with?

A somewhat cursory analysis of a number of different movies and other works of fiction, led me to come up with the following mathematical equations:

V for Vendetta (the movie) = 1984 (the book) + Batman (the movie)

Crimson Tide (the movie) = Hunt for Red October (book or movie) + The Cane Mutiny (book or movie)

Boston Legal (TV Show) = The Practice (TV Show) + Ally McBeal (TV Show)

The Lyon King (Movie) = Hamlet (Play) + The Jungle Book (Movie)

How many other such equations can you come up with? "Best answer" will be chosen based on the best equations in terms of quality and quantity.

Have fun!

How many movie equations can you come up with?
Eragon = Star Wars + Dragonheart

Red Planet = Mission to Mars + Pitch Black (only in theory, alas)

Hart's War = The Great Escape + Bruce Willis

Shaun of the Dead = Land of the Dead + Monty Python

300 = Three Hundred Spartans + CGI + Frank Miller

Christine = The Love Bug + Chucky

Maximum Overdrive = Convoy + Virus

Deathrace 2000 = Cannonball Run + Faces of Death

Hook = Peter Pan + Big

EDIT: adding more ...

Firebirds = Top Gun - F-14s + helicopters - brain cells

Bull Durham = Major League + Susan Sarandon

The Patriot = Braveheart - kilts

Jurassic Park = Alien - aliens + dinosaurs

EDIT again ... more yet:

Deep Blue Sea = Jaws + Frankenstein

Species = Alien + 9 1/2 Weeks

Starship Troopers = Aliens + Fast Times at Ridgemont High

Mars Attacks = Aliens + Airplane!

Event Horizon = The Black Hole + The Shining

Encino Man = Iceman + Bill %26amp; Ted's Excellent Adventure

Quigley Down Under = Magnum P.I. + Pale Rider

Armageddon = Deep Impact + testosterone

Volcano = Dante's Peak - realism
Reply:All Chuck Norris Movies = All Steven Segal Movies.

ElizabethTown = 4 weddings and a funeral + Sleepless in Seattle

Are you tired of movie reviewers?

I hate movie reviewrs because they suck, they give good reviews to comedys maybe 2 or 3 times a year. IE, every Adam Sandler movie ever made has gotten terrible reviews. Yet woody allen who possibly makes the least funny movies ever, is given an oscar. When are movie reviews going to realize that when i go see a comedy movie, im not going to learn something or feel sad or leave the theatre feeling like ****, i go to a comedy movie to laugh, and the movies that get bad reviews are the ones that make you laugh Exception(Borat). Most of all Anchorman got ok reviews but frankly that movie should have gotten nothing but good reviews, and put on a pedastool as one of the greatest movies ever, because it did what you paid it to do, to make you laugh, and it did it better than any other movie, damnit someone give ferrell an oscar

Are you tired of movie reviewers?
I DON'T EVEN BOTHER.....

Just because they don't like my movies, doesn't mean I have to listen to them...
Reply:They are of no use to me. I like surprises.
Reply:Seeing as movie reviews are usually the closest I get to the movies until they are on television or discounted dvd, I don't mind them or worry too much about the reviewers' opinions. At least the reviews tell you what the movies are about and who is in them etc. If you follow your logic, the reviewers are still informing you about which movies you are likely to enjoy, even if it is in a round-about way. I guess everyone values different things in a movie and actors. Good luck.
Reply:Usually(depending on the critic ) when he claims it's horrible that is my best indication that is something I would enjoy. Some of the stuff thinks is worthy is pretty lame.
Reply:LOL i absolutely agree with you!

i think the reason why these modern comedy movies get bad reviews is because so many dull people are doing the reviewing! Reviewers need to lighten up! Stop checking off the checklist and just enjoy a good laugh as Steve chugs beer down his butthole (jackass 2)!!!
